Adidas has teamed up with Amsterdam-based fashion brand Daily Paper to unveil Ajax's new third kit for the 2022-23 season. The new kit is designed to celebrate Amsterdam's unique street football culture and the club's golden generation, and to celebrate their influence on Amsterdam's sense of belonging and shared identity.
The predominantly light gold jersey features the smoky watermarks of Amsterdam's nine most famous street football stadiums. The red and black vertical stripes and the white club crest and sponsor's logo all reflect the colors of the city's flag. The design also features the iconic red banner of Ajax's home jersey.
With the kit, Adidas, Daily Paper and Ajax pay tribute to the city's unique street football culture and the club's golden generation. These famous football stadiums have been and continue to be the cradle of Amsterdam's talent, including many of Ajax's past and present stars. Today, it is a place where future superstars draw inspiration from the past. It is also a place where technology and creativity are celebrated and talent is nurtured. Many believe that this is the root of Ajax's famous attacking style of football.
The nine Amsterdam street football stadiums are Balboaplein, Zaandammerplein, A. Nouriplein (formerly Nigel de Jongplein), Louis de Visserplein (Gregory van Der Wielplein), Piramide, Henrick de Keijserplein, Joubertplein, Mijehof, and Obi/Boni Plein.
The jersey brings the Amsterdam city emblem to life as an amazing collar detail, incorporating elements of the Ajax and Daily Paper brands, the year 1275 from which Amsterdam is named, the city's nicknames Mokum and Damsko, and pan-African colors, It reflects the African heritage of the Daily Paper brand.
The commercially available version of the jersey will have a Daily Paper embroidered below the club crest on the jersey and shorts, but due to the rules of the event organizer, the Daily Paper brand and collar details will not appear on the team's off-field jerseys. The jerseys were paired with black shorts with white detailing and gold socks with red and black horizontal stripes.
The jersey will be second choice for European matches and third choice for home and away matches in domestic league and cup competitions.
