FIGC Has Unveiled A New Badge For The National Team
2023-01-30

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) today unveiled the new emblem and musical logo of the Italian national team, marking the completion of the rebranding project of the Football Federation and the national team. The new national team badge will be accompanied by the same music system as the association's institutional logo, which was launched last year, and will work on every touch point, whether it is a real scene or a digital medium.

"We are ready for the future," said Gabriele Gravina, president of the Italian Football Federation. "Today, with the unveiling of the new image of the Italian national team, together with the new emblem and musical logo, which is a historical innovation, we are entering new territory. No matter what, we remain committed to the same vision of generating extraordinary emotion among all our fans. It was these sentiments that helped create this new insignia, which will also appear on our new jerseys, continuing a glorious tradition in the process and providing inspiration for the brand new musical logo and the 'Azzurri' song."

The new crest was designed by Independent Ideas, a creative agency owned by Publicis Groupe, which oversaw the entire rebranding of the Italian Football Federation. The new badge celebrates the national symbol and reflects the feelings and passions of all Italian football fans. Over the next few days, fans will also be treated to new jerseys launched in collaboration with Les Bleus' new partner Adidas.

To coincide with the launch of the new badge, the Italian Football Federation's social media account paired refined emotions with iconic scenes from the national team's past: Desiderio, which was on full display by Les Bleus at the 2006 World Cup; Confidence (Fiducia), as shown by the coach and players in their Euro 2020 triumph; Stupore, everyone's reaction to Totti's spoon-kick in 2000; Finally, there was Gioia, or joy, as Les Bleus lifted the trophy high and the whole country rejoiced. The same sentiments spread on the women's team's homepage: the gasp at Girelli's goal against Jamaica at the 2019 World Cup; Bonansea's delight when they scored twice against Australia in the same tournament; The competitive nature of the Under-19 women's team when they won the European Championship in 2009, Italy's first and so far only international trophy; And Panico's confidence against Germany in the 1999 World Cup, she represents the generation after generation of female players who have made Italian soccer history.

It was out of these feelings and what every fan feels when he wears the Italian shirt proudly on the pitch that the new emblem of the Italian national team was conceived. The new badge unveiled today marks the arrival of 2023, a year in which Italy will host the 2023 Europa League finals in June and begin their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign in March. It represents the start of a new chapter in Italy's illustrious history, with Les Bleus aiming to bounce back from the disappointment of missing out on the most recent World Cup.

Built by Inarea Identity Design (an Italian company with international experience in design and brand image), a real music system has been created under the artistic direction of Enrico Giaretta. It includes different forms, starting with the sound logo of the new badge, which encapsulates supporters' passion for the men's and women's national teams in three seconds. There are also variations on various real-world Settings and digital media touchpoints, as well as a song titled "Les Azzurri," composed and produced by Enrico Giarretta and Maurizio D'Aniello.

The concept, themed "One Voice that unites the nation," aims to convey in two simple notes all the values that Italian football has been trying to convey for 125 years. These two notes have a strong emotional character, in keeping with the DNA of the Italian Football Federation. This emotional signature was reinforced by the voice of the soprano Susanna Rigacci, known for her historic collaboration with the late maestro Ennio Morricone.

In 2021, the Italian Football Federation decided to update its brand image by distinguishing the emblem on the national team jersey from the logo of the institutional entity, which was the first to introduce a modern and authoritative institutional logo representing the entire federation. Now the new "Les Bleus" insignia will join them, as the other side of the same coin, harmoniously expressing the same vision through the lines and elements between the two logos.
